Wednesday 01. July 2009 New Album, New Bass, Freakstock on Friday

We are moving, straight to a new chapter of the band. All of us are working intensively to get the new record done as soon as possible and enter the stage again. Unfortunately, Silvia can’t play bass for a while but we found an excellent replacement. We send a very warm welcome to Joki, who some of you might know from semtex and Imaginary War. He will also be the producer of our upcoming album. The first rehearsal together was a blast and we are finding our new sound. The new songs kick ass and we can’t wait to let you hear.

Studio
In September, we enter the studio and will record 10 tracks which are almost finished by now. Of course it’s all harder, faster and better now J. We will let you hear soon.

Till then we’re playing some shows and work harder than ever.

Love

Wednesday 03. September 2008 Ralph leaves saphena

After 8 years, Ralph decided to leave saphena. Without him, this band, many lyrics and music would not exist. We thank him for an awesome time with countless hours of creativity, discussion, noise, weird humor, unforgettable trips and much more. What remains is good friendship and the confidence, that it’s right the way it is. It has always been more than just music. Read Ralph’s statement about his reasons below. saphena will continue to work on a new album being four of us.

Thank you Ralph for everything. Silvia, Andi, Rob, Axel

Ralph’s statement:

Now it’s been about a year since I have been standing on the boards of a metal stage. In September 2007 the noises in my acoustic organs demanded a pause from the band’s everyday life. For me that meant a considerable minus concerning the variety of my recreational activities but I could use these months to invest in my education, to spend an exorbitant number of weekends at home, to come to rest and gradually to expose myself to the noise that young people like to produce during sporadic concerts.

Life went on of course, and in the Saphena rehearsal room they worked continuously and with undamped energy on great musical deeds. As time passed the question arose, how and in what formation Saphena would face the challenges of spreading vociferous music in the near future. For me it was the case that, thinking of the band, my thoughts rather considered the seven great years we spent instead of being concerned with the time to come. Furthermore, my desire to turn to different musical forms of expression more and more surfaced, certainly due to my by now strongly alternated music listening habits. To put it short, the popular question “Where do you see yourself in x years time?” absolutely possesses value when searching for a decision and for me the honest answer was: “Not with Saphena.”

Thus ends for me, unspectacularly though, a major chapter of my life without actually changing much, because the most important aspects of our band family, namely being on the same wavelength, mutual understanding, aching risible muscles and a great gigantic pile of shared memories remain unchanged and immediately are back when we meet.

I would like to thank Silvi, Andi, Axel and Rob for really everything and wish them a good start into the further future and lots of fun with all rehearsals, gigs, recordings and with everything a musician’s life brings along.
